There are a number of directions the Redskins could go with this pick. They could use some help defensively at the second and third levels. Adding some firepower to an offense that lost multiple players in free agency would be smart as well.

At this point in the draft, McCaffery is arguably the most explosive running back that remains. He will be an intriguing prospect for the Redskins also because of the other things he brings to the table.

Washington lost DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon in free agency, only replacing them with Terrelle Pryor. McCaffery would help offset their losses and also help in the backfield. The Redskins received underwhelming performances from their running backs according to Pro Football Focus, so McCaffery would help there as well.

McCaffery won’t be an every-down back in the NFL like at Stanford but can impact the game in multiple ways. His prowess in the return game is an added bonus to the production he provides offensively.
