The New York Giants are deep into preparations for the 2017 NFL Draft. Will they be able to continue their strong offseason in the draft? A lot of it depends on how the boards fall as they have the 23rd selection in the draft.

How could the draft board shake out? We take a look by taking a shot at a full 32-pick first round mock draft. Co-experts Kenneth Teape and Nick Ziegler alternate picks in the first round. Kenneth won the coin flip and will be selecting all of the odd number picks, while Nick will have the even picks.

All statistics are from Pro Football Focus, College Football Reference, and ESPN.

Without further ado, let’s get to the picks. The Cleveland Browns are first on the clock!

The Browns were not a good team last season. They went 1-15 and as a result, they get the No.1 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. A quarterback is desperately needed in Cleveland, but there are none worth taking first overall. Instead, the Browns will select a game changer on the defensive side of the ball.

Garrett is by far the best defensive and overall prospect in this draft. He can fit in as either a 4-3 defensive end of 3-4 pass rushing linebacker. He finished in the top-three of edge defender grades in college football all three seasons in college according to Pro Football Focus.

Garrett is athletically gifted and has the skills to be a dominant pass rusher. His run defense needs work, but his potentially elite pass-rushing skills make him a no-brainer at the top of the draft.

The Browns have a lot of needs. Offensively, a lot of their problems could be lessened with improvement at quarterback. Defensively they need more talent and Garrett will provide that. Last season Cleveland finished 30th in points allowed and 31st in yards. They also ranked 30th in sacks.
