Todd McShay First Round Pick

In Round One, Todd McShay has the Giants selecting defensive tackle Malik McDowell out of Michigan State. With Johnathan Hankins still a free agent, the Giants may need some depth at defensive tackle. With Owa Odighizuwa’s future also up in the air, the Giants draft plans could change early on.

There is no deny that McDowell is talented; he just doesn’t always bring the effort. That is part of what McShay said in regards to this selection.

"McDowell is the most talented interior pass-rusher in the draft, but he didn’t play with the same passion and toughness this past season, which is a red flag. The veterans along the Giants’ defensive line can show him how to be a pro."

The Giants cannot afford to strike out on their top picks. They are close to being a contender and need to fill out the roster with high upside, ready to play talent. If McDowell has red flags in effort, the Giants will most likely pass on that player.

Both Kiper and McShay have offensive lineman available when the Giants are on the clock. If that is case, expect them to go in that direction instead of adding a question mark such as McDowell.
