The New York Yankees wrapped up their first series of the season on Thursday night against the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rays took the series 2-1, as the Yankees were unable to put together a complete game in the series.

It was only the first series, so patience is still needed. But, there were some surprising road bumps for the Yankees in the opening series. They got plenty of unexpected performances from both the lineup and pitching staff, something being positive and others being negative.

Here are the results from each game in the series.

More from New York Yankees

Game 1: WP: Chris Archer (1-0) LP: Masahiro Tanaka (0-1) S: Alex Colome (1)
Game 2: WP: C.C. Sabathia (1-0) LP: Jake Odorizzi (0-1)
Game 3: WP: Alex Cobb (1-0) LP: Michael Pineda (0-1) S: Alex Colome (2)

The Yankees offense was relatively quiet throughout the series. They won the second game 5-0 but managed only four runs in the other two games. The starting rotation was unable to pick up the slack, as the Rays starting rotation out pitched them overall in the series.

The Yankees will have off until Friday when they begin a weekend series with the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards. The Rays will begin a series tonight at Tropicana Field against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Before we get to that series, let’s take a look at the one the Yankees just finished up. Check out recap with some takeaways from the Yankees first series of the season against the Rays.
