The New York Mets were facing off against Bartolo Colon for the first time this season. How did they do against their former teammate?

Final. 1. 3. 3. 17

The return of Bartolo Colon to Citi Field was certainly a big deal for New York Mets fans. Colon was able to rejuvenate his career with the Mets, and he became a fan-favorite.

With the nickname “Big Sexy”, Colon made baseball fun in New York with his antics on the field. In addition to some fun moments, there was also some really great pitching by Colon.

All eyes were on Colon’s return, however, deGrom looked great in his first start of the season. In a no decision, deGrom totaled six scoreless innings with six strikeouts, and he only allowed three base-runners.

Colon went toe-to-toe with deGrom, as he pitched six innings, but he did allow a home run to Jay Bruce. Like deGrom, Colon got a no decision because the Braves were able to score a run in the top of the seventh inning off Hansel Robles.

Luckily for the Mets, Jerry Blevins was able to get the Mets out of a huge jam, as he came in with the bases loaded and just one out. Blevins would get a big strikeout and then a groundout to escape with the game still tied.

After Blevins bailed out Robles, the Mets and Braves went into extra innings. Relievers on both teams pitched excellent, as both managers went deep into their bullpens. The Braves got to Rafael Montero in the 12th inning, as Matt Kemp hit his third double of the game to give the Braves a 3-1 lead. Jim Johnson would shut the door on the Mets in the bottom of the 12th to hand them their first loss of the season.
