Can Didi Be Replaced

The Yankees suffered a big blow in Spring Training when Didi Gregorius got hurt. Gregorius injured his shoulder during the World Baseball Classic playing for the Netherlands. He is expected to be out until May, so the Yankees will have to patch things together until then.

For now, it looks like Ronald Torreyes and Pete Kozma will try and replace Gregorius. There are a lot of people that want to see top prospect Gleyber Torres take over, but Brian Cashman is hesitant to bring him up. Torres is not on the 40-man roster, so moves would have had to be made. Also, he has not played above A+ ball; making the jump the major leagues could be too extreme of one.

Torres played well in Spring Training, but Cashman decided it would be best to keep him in the minor leagues for now. That means it will be on Torreyes and Kozma to carry the load at shortstop. The Yankees could also turn to Tyler Wade if their current options don’t pan out.

It will be something to keep an eye on until Gregorius returns. The Yankees would like Torres to stay in the minors as long as possible, but if the players they are using struggle how long can they keep him down for, especially if he is playing well?
