Noah Syndergaard of the New York Mets will be making the first Opening Day start of his career. He can’t wait for the opportunity.

On Monday, Noah Syndergaard will be taking the mound for the New York Mets as they start the season against the Atlanta Braves. The Mets are hoping to have a strong start to the season to set the tone, and winning games against their rival will help do that.

This will be the first time that Syndergaard takes the hill as an Opening Day starter. The honor is certainly well-deserved for Syndergaard, as he excellent for the Mets last season. Despite injuries to some of his fellow starters, Syndergaard was able to stay healthy and pitch the entire season.

As all baseball fans, Syndergaard and the Mets are excited to get the season going. However, for Syndergaard, it will be extra special.

"“We are all really excited to be here,” Syndergaard said Friday to Rich Greco of NJ.com. “Walking up those dugout steps and seeing Citi Field for the first time was unbelievable. It just got me really excited. My heart started racing. I think it’s the same way for everybody out there. It doesn’t matter if it’s rain or shine, we’ll be out there getting our work done.”"

Terry Collins naming Syndergaard the starter is certainly an honor considering the other pitchers. With Jacob deGrom and Matt Harvey in the rotation, Syndergaard being named the starter is an indication that he is the leader of the staff.

"“I feel like it doesn’t matter if I’m starting Opening Day or not, I feel like we have five aces on this team that can come in and do the job,” Syndergaard said to Greco. “I’m just fortunate enough to lead us off and hopefully set the tone for the rest of the season.”"

Syndergaard will be facing Julio Teheran in the opener. Last season, Teheran was a thorn in the side of the Mets, and the offense will have to be sharp.
