New York Knicks rumors: Despite having a no-trade clause, the Knicks are still committed to trading away Carmelo Anthony.

New York Knicks rumors are going to pick up soon. With the regular season down the drain, the Knicks attention will be fully on the offseason, if it hasn’t already. One of the things that will be on their to-do list is what to do with Carmelo Anthony.

Anthony has been the center of trade rumors for a while. The rumors are a mute point because Anthony possesses a full no-trade clause. But, that hasn’t stopped the Knicks from trying.

Phil Jackson was reportedly determined to trade Anthony prior to the NBA Trade Deadline. The Knicks were unable to complete a deal involving Anthony, making no moves at the deadline. Jackon is the one that handed Anthony all the power here with a full no-trade clause, but he wants to get out of it.

More from Carmelo Anthony

The next chance for him is during the summer. According to ESPN New York’s Ian Begley, the Knicks remain committed to moving Anthony in the offseason. The problem with shopping Anthony is that it can all be for naught; if Anthony does not want to leave, as he has stated previously, he will be going nowhere.

One team to keep an eye on is the Los Angeles Clippers. The Clippers seemed to be most engaged prior to the trade deadline in talks for Anthony. The Knicks were reportedly willing to make a trade without acquiring any of the Clippers Big Three of Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, and DeAndre Jordan. A package including Austin Rivers, Jamal Crawford, and/or J.J. Redick was discussed.

The Knicks should be lucky that Anthony has a no-trade clause to stop them from making that kind of deal. If the Knicks do indeed find a place Anthony will agree to be traded, it needs to be to push forward their rebuild; not a salary dump.

Money should now be the leading factor in trading Anthony; it should be to make a change of direction with the organization; going from Anthony as the face of the franchise to building around Kristaps Porzingis.

This will surely be a story to dominate headlines as long as Anthony is on the roster. Unless Anthony comes out and says he is willing to waive that no-trade clause, these rumors need to be taken with a grain of salt.
