It was not a good start in the first round for Baylor against New Mexico State. In the first half, Baylor was trailing New Mexico State by two points, but they were able to have a big second half to win by a wide margin. In the second half, Baylor was clicking offensively, as they scored 53 points in the second half. On defense, they played well too, as they allowed just 33 points.

One of the reasons for the win was because of the excellent production from the bench. Baylor was able to a lot of unexpected production from their bench, as they had two scorers in double figures.

While Al Freeman played very well, it was Terry Maston who was the best player for Baylor in the win. Maston averages just under seven points per game, but he was able to play extremely well in the first round.

In the win, Maston was able to total 19 points, nine rebounds, and two assists. The 19 points came very easily as well for Maston, as he shot nine-for-12 from the field. Getting extra production from the bench will certainly help Baylor in the tournament, as they have some tough teams in the East region.
