Recent New York Jets rumors are that quarterback Josh McCown is coming to visit the Jets. Is he a good option?
There have been plenty of New York Jets rumors this offseason, as they have been an active team this offseason. One of the questions surrounding the team is what the team will do at quarterback next season.
Due to the struggles of Ryan Fitzpatrick in 2016, he was let go by the Jets. After Fitzpatrick began to struggle last season, the Jets gave quarterback Bryce Petty a chance under center. On a poor team, Petty did not impress in a few starts.
In addition to Petty, the Jets also have second round pick Christian Hackenberg on the roster. Despite being a high pick, Hackenberg didn’t play at all in 2016. The Hackenberg situation is certainly a confusing one for the Jets, as some believe that he isn’t an NFL quarterback.
With a lot of uncertainty at the quarterback position, many have speculated that the Jets will have to add another quarterback. Some believe that the Jets might look to the draft once again to find a quarterback, but there are a few free agents that could be suitable.
According to Ian Rapoport, veteran quarterback Josh McCown will be coming to visit the Jets.
Speaking of QBs… FA QB Josh McCown is on his way to #Jets, source said. He’s visiting with them today & tomorrow. Also has #Cowboys interest

McCown has been around quite a bit in his career, with the Cleveland Browns being his team last season. In five games with the Browns, McCown totaled 1,100 passing yards, six passing touchdowns, and six interceptions.
The possible addition of McCown would give the Jets a solid veteran backup. McCown has the ability to start, but that is not the ideal situation. Having a veteran like McCown tutoring Petty and Hackenberg would be a smart move for the Jets.

If they did add McCown, that could be an indication that the Jets would pass on drafting a quarterback this season, However, it wouldn’t be the first time they carried four quarterbacks on the roster.
