New York Jets Receive Solid Grade for Kelvin Beachum Signing

The New York Jets recently signed tackle Kelvin Beachum this offseason. What grade did they receive for the signing?

Arguably the biggest signing thus far for the New York Jets has been the signing of Kelvin Beachum. After having a poor offensive line in 2016, the Jets are trying to improve the unit this offseason.

So far, we have seen the Jets move on from three of their projected starting offensive linemen from 2016. The decision to release Nick Mangold, Ryan Clady and Breno Giacomini freed up a lot of salary cap space, but it also left voids at those positions, as all three were starters for the Jets last season.

With the newfound cap space, the Jets made the decision to sign tackle Kelvin Beachum after he played just one season with the Jacksonville Jaguars last season. The move comes with the risk but could give the Jets a talented young tackle.

Sam Monson of Pro Football Focus recently graded the signing of Beachum for the Jets. He gave them a solid B grade, and here’s what he had to say about the signing.

"Kelvin Beachum is one of the toughest evaluations of any free agent. He has one good season in the NFL (2014), but that season was excellent, and he had started the following year well before tearing his knee. Last season with Jacksonville, his first since the injury, was a disaster, but given the money flying around for offensive tackles so far and his potential proven upside, this deal is very reasonable and could pay off for the Jets."

Beachum was one of the best offensive tackles in the league in 2014. However, the injury suffered in 2015 really seemed to affect him still last season. Due to that, there is a lot of risk for the Jets.

However, if they get the 2014 version of Beachum with the Pittsburgh Steelers, this signing can be a home run.
