The New York Giants recently signed wide receiver Brandon Marshall. What grade did they receive for the signing?

The New York Giants made a nice splash to begin free agency, as they were able to sign wide receiver Brandon Marshall. For the past two seasons, Marshall has been playing with the New York Jets.

Now, Marshall has turned his green in for blue and will be following in the footsteps of what Damon Harrison did last season. The Giants will hope that Marshall can play as well as Harrison did for them in his first season with the team.

In Marshall’s first season with the Jets, he had a monster season. He was able to total just over 1,500 receiving yards, and he looked like one of the best receivers in the league. As the Jets struggled in 2016, so did Marshall. Likely due to poor play at the quarterback position, Marshall had one of the worst seasons of his career.

Sam Monson of Pro Football Focus recently graded the signing of Marshall by the Giants. Monson gave the Giants an A grade for the signing. Here’s what he had to say about the move.

"Brandon Marshall saw a significant drop in production and PFF grade in 2016, but he was one of only two players to score a touchdown against Seahawks CB Richard Sherman all season, and still showed plenty of high-quality play. The Giants are betting the downturn was due more to disastrous QB play than it was to Marshall himself, and they’re not betting a lot to find out."

After releasing Victor Cruz, the Giants certainly had a need at wide receiver. Unlike Cruz, Marshall gives the Giants a big bodied receiver on the outside and should compliment Odell Beckham Jr. nicely.

Marshall wanted to play for a winning team in 2017. After reaching the playoffs last season, the Giants should be able to compete for an NFC Title next season. The addition of Marshall should help them, and he might be able to finally play in a playoff game next season.
