2017 Big East Tournament: 6 Players To Watch For
Trevon Bluiett
Xavier probably saved their NCAA Tournament hopes with their victory over DePaul on Wednesday. Xavier’s season has gone in the gutter since Edmond Sumner tore his ACL. His injury was followed up by Blueitt going down, missing two games. Bluiett now has a lot of pressure to carry the Xavier offense.
He scored 17 points against DePaul but struggled with his shot. He made only 29.4 percent of his shots in the game, but that is probably a blip in the radar. Blueitt can fill it up when given a chance. He averages 18 points per game, good for fourth in the conference. He makes 43.8 percent of his shots, 37.9 percent from deep and 76.4 percent from the foul line.
While his scoring punch is much appreciated by Xavier, he helps out in other ways. His 5.8 rebounds per game are second on the team, and he also chips in 2.0 assists and only two turnovers in 34.4 minutes per game.
Bluiett is the type of player that can single-handedly carry his team to a conference championship much like Kemba Walker did for Connecticut. Xavier will need it, as they face off with the No.2 seed Butler Bulldogs tonight.
