The 2017 Big East Tournament is upon us. This is one of many conference tournaments across the country that signals the start of March Madness in college basketball.

There is a lot of tradition in the Big East tournament. It has been at Madison Square Garden every year since 1983. We have seen some amazing rivalries over the years, and even more great players grace the court at Madison Square Garden.

This year’s conference tournament got underway last night with two longtime rivals, the eighth-seeded St. John’s Red Storm and ninth-seeded Georgetown Hoyas. The Red Storm won that matchup in a classic, knocking off Georgetown 74-73. That game was followed up with the seventh-seeded Xavier Musketeers knocking off the 10th seeded DePaul Blue Demons.

Both winners will be back at it today as the Big East tournament rolls on. Will either of the teams who won last night be able to go on a run and claim the tournament title? Kemba Walker led Connecticut on an improbable run in 2011, and Isaiah Whitehead did the same for Seton Hall last year.

If a team is going to make a run, it will need their best players to step up. If one of the powerhouses in the conference are going to take the title, they will need players of their own to step up to avoid the upsets.

Which players should we be paying attention to? Check out our slideshow of six players to keep an eye on during the 2017 Big East Tournament.
