Johnathan Hankins

With Jason Pierre-Paul franchise tagged, the Giants can now focus their attention on fellow defensive line free agent, Johnathan Hankins. Keeping Hankins should be near the top of the Giants priority list.

Hankins is a productive defensive tackle. He, combined with Damon Harrison, are an immovable force. They shut down the run game between the tackles last season, helping to turn around the Giants defense. Hankins has also shown an ability to get after the quarterback, registering three sacks this past season and 10 in his career.

The problem for the Giants could be the price. Hankins is one of the best defensive lineman available this offseason. He should generate a ton of interest on the open market, putting the Giants in a tough spot.

This is something the Giants have gone through in the past. They were in a similar situation with Linval Joseph, and let him walk to the Minnesota Vikings. They cannot let that happen again, as the Giants need to keep together their dominant defensive line group.

If the Giants lose out on Hankins, they could try going after someone such as Nick Fairley, Sylvester Williams, or Alan Branch.
