It is no secret that the Giants need help along their offensive line. While some of the stats would say otherwise, such as their sacks allowed, the Giants need a retooling along the offensive line, specifically at the tackle positions.

Ereck Flowers has been a disaster at left tackle since taking over for the injured Will Beatty in 2015. Flowers was selected with the ninth overall pick in 2015 but he has not panned out. Signing a veteran left tackle is a must this season after the Giants whiffed last year.

Last year the Giants were unwilling to move Flowers from left tackle. That turned off some free agents, causing the Giants to miss out on the likes of Okung, Donald Penn, and Kelvin Beachum. They cannot make the same mistake this season.

Bringing in a veteran will upgrade two spots. Left tackle would be improved, but playing Flowers on the right side would also strengthen that area. Flowers has struggled in pass protection but is athletic and a road grinder, showing promise as a run blocker.

The Giants were linked to Okung last season, but if they are unable to land him there are other names to watch for. Maybe Andrew Whitworth will be cheaper than anticipated, or the Giants can take a chance on Beachum or Riley Reiff.
