Dont’a Hightower

One of the best defensive free agents that are available on the defensive side of the ball is linebacker Dont’a Hightower. For the Jets to truly have a need for Hightower, they would likely have to cut David Harris. With that being a possibility, Hightower would be an excellent replacement.

As a key member of the Patriots, Hightower didn’t receive the franchise tag and is testing free agency. Due to his success in New England, Hightower will likely be receiving a contract around $12 million per season. While this is a steep price, it would be a big blow to the Patriots to lose Hightower, and also a great addition for the Jets.

Despite some minor injury issues, Hightower makes plays when the team needs it. In the Super Bowl win against the Seattle Seahawks, Hightower made a big stop on a Marshawn Lynch run near the goal line. In Super Bowl LI, Hightower had a game-changing strip sack of Matt Ryan to help fuel the comeback.

As one of the best linebackers in the NFL, Hightower would be a welcomed addition to the Jets linebacker corps. He is a three-down linebacker that can cover, stop the run, and get pressure on the quarterback. As the total package, he would certainly help improve the defense.
