Andrew Whitworth

Certainly, a need for the New York Jets in free agency is at left tackle. Even though offensive linemen aren’t generally considered “big names” Andrew Whitworth is a player that has been excellent throughout his career.

At 35-years-old, Whitworth has still shown no signs of slowing down. According to Pro Football Focus, Whitworth was graded as the second-best offensive tackle in the NFL behind just Trent Williams of the Washington Redskins. As a pass blocker, he was graded as the best tackle, and he was graded as the 17th best tackle in run blocking.

Compared to what the Jets received production wise at left tackle last season, Whitworth would be a massive upgrade. Due to him being arguably the best tackle available, the price might be steep for Whitworth.

At 35-years-old, age, of course, would be a concern for the Jets. This offseason, they have tried to get younger. While that may be the route they go in at left tackle, Whitworth would provide a great veteran option. No matter who is under center for the Jets in 2017, they will be hard-pressed to succeed if they don’t get the proper protection needed. Signing a tackle might not be flashy, but it is something that the Jets must do this offseason.
