New England Patriots

It doesn’t get any better in terms of consistency with contending than the New England Patriots. The combination of Bill Belichick and Tom Brady has been an unstoppable machine; joining them essentially guarantees a playoff berth and an excellent chance at winning a Super Bowl.

Ben Volin of the Boston Globe reports that there is some mutual interest between Marshall and the Patriots.

That should not be surprising. The Patriots are a haven for veterans looking to make a run at a Super Bowl ring. They give players as good a chance as any team. The Patriots are already a juggernaut offensively and adding Marshall to that would improve them.

But, can the Patriots afford to fit him into their plans? Despite winning the Super Bowl the Patriots have some issues on the defensive side of the ball. They have also found some consistency offensively with Julian Edelman, Chris Hogan, and Malcolm Mitchell emerging as legitimate weapons at receiver.

There is no doubt that Marshall would help the Patriots, but is the move worth it for New England? If Marshall is not willing to meet their price, expect the Patriots to look elsewhere if they are going to add a wide receiver at all.
