Eric Decker

The Jets already made a big move at wide receiver when they released Brandon Marshall. Could another one involving their other key veteran be on the horizon?

Decker is currently recovering from multiple surgeries. He had operations to repair his shoulder and hip last season and there was an uncertainty of when he will be available. There is a good chance that Decker misses a large chunk of the offseason program; using original timetables placed him returning in mid-late July. Could he be doing that with a different team?

There is a chance according to Rich Cimini. Cutting Decker, after releasing Marshall, would leave the Jets very thin at wide receiver in terms of experience. If Decker is released, the eldest Jets at wide receiver will be 2015 second round pick bust Devin Smith and Quincy Enunwa.

That is something that some people may find weird. But, if you are going into a rebuild, you might as well go at it wholeheartedly. What is the point of keeping players such as Decker around that will help you win five or six games? At that point, you’re better off losing another two or three games without them and raising your chances of landing an impact player.

General manager Mike Maccagnan believes that Decker will be available for OTA’s, and didn’t mention moving on from him. He could be playing things close to the vest, as Decker could be released to open up more cap space and playing time for youngsters.
