Sheldon Richardson

There is no doubt that Richardson is a good football player. Unfortunately for Richardson, his production may not be enough to make it worthwhile to keep him.

He has had multiple run-ins with the law and been suspended by the NFL at the beginning of the last two seasons. It would make sense for the Jets to continue shopping him and try getting back some sort of compensation for him.

The Jets have been trying to trade Richardson for awhile now. They looked close to making a deal prior to the trade deadline this past season, but their asking price was very high. The Dallas Cowboys were reportedly interested in acquiring him, but not at the Jets asking price. There are rumors that the Jets should expect to only receive a third round pick for him, at best.

Is that worth it for the Jets? At this point in time, probably. The Jets cannot afford to give Richardson a long-term deal. They already gave one to Muhammad Wilkerson last season and Leonard Williams looks like the better bet at this point. Dumping more money into the defensive line would be a poor decision, so trading Richardson should be the move for the Jets.

Even if they are only able to get a third round pick for him, that is better than nothing. It may fall short of what the Jets were asking for a couple of months ago, but they should be happy to get anything for a player with the history of Richardson off the field.
