Least Valuable Player

The past few years there have been two players that have disappointed for the Mets. Both David Wright and Travis d’Arnaud have struggled with injuries the past few seasons, and that has certainly affected their performance when on the field.

Coming into 2017, Wright is once again not healthy for the Mets. Likely due to his recovery from neck surgery, Wright has recently been shut down from throwing a baseball. Due to the fact that the Mets play in the National League, Wright has to be able to field in order to play third base.

In the past two seasons, Wright has been unable to play in 40 games in each of them. With a recent setback in spring training, it’s hard to imagine that he’s going to have a positive impact on the Mets in 2017. While d’Arnaud has had his issues the past few seasons, he is working hard to improve defensively behind the plate this spring. If he is healthy, he is usually a pretty good hitter.

Due to the big contract, Wright is certainly holding the Mets back. It has been really sad to watch the quick demise of Wright, but injuries have ruined his career. In 2017, expect to see him as the Least Valuable Player on the Mets.
