With a lot of great pitchers on the Mets, choosing this award was a tough one. While some will point to Zack Wheeler, he’s going to have to get a pass this season. Due to the setbacks from Tommy John surgery, anything the Mets get from Wheeler should be considered a bonus. After not pitching for two years, it’s impossible to predict what type of pitcher Wheeler can even be anymore.

Last season, one of the big disappointments for the Mets was Matt Harvey. Prior to having his season ended by surgery, Harvey did not pitch well at all for the Mets. He totaled a 4-10 record and an ERA of nearly. While Harvey is certainly a candidate for this one, he was an ace for the Mets, and he should be able to bounce back.

That brings us to Steven Matz. While Matz might not have a bad season, he might have the worst out of the Mets’ Big 4. The Mets have been hard by injuries in recent years, and one of the players that are always hurt is Matz.

In addition to the injuries, we still haven’t seen all that much of Matz to truly know what type of pitcher he is. With just 28 major league starts under his belt, he is still somewhat of an unproven player.
