Brian Hoyer: QB

It’s clear in Florham Park, the rebuild has begun. While there are younger signer callers then the 31-year-old Brian Hoyer, here’s the dilemma that Jets will face. Invest in an even older veteran in Jay Cutler or Tony Romo who will not have the pieces around them to get the Jets to the postseason. Or, they could break the bank for a Mike Glennon whose age and upside could spark a bidding war that pays him close to what Brock Osweiler made in Houston last offseason. With the Jets current cap, a bad decision.

Could the Jets bring back Geno Smith at a reduced price? Sure, but there are two major issues with that reunion. First, Smith has had problems in the locker room and it’s clear the Jets are trying to change the culture in the room. Second and most important, his injury means he might not be ready for opening day .

Even on a team with what you could argue has less talent then the Jets, Hoyer threw for 6 TDs and 0 interceptions in 5 starts in Chicago. Will he be a world beater? No, but he would give the Jets a game manager for the short-term who could play well like 2015 Ryan Fitzpatrick if given the chance.

Hoyer would give the Jets time and more importantly save them money as the team evaluates the potential of Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg. If after next season the team decides they still need a franchise quarterback, they will be in a draft with better quarterback prospects next season.

With the rebuild on the way, the Jets could use Hoyer to be a veteran under center.
