One of the most frustrating pitchers to try and figure out on the New York Yankees is Michael Pineda. Sometimes, Pineda looks like he can be the ace of the staff, and other times he looks like he doesn’t belong in the majors. Due to this inconsistency, he hasn’t been able to reach his potential in New York.

Last season, there was a lot more of the bad Pineda than the good. He totaled a 6-12 record, 4.82 ERA, and allowed 27 home runs. For a Yankees’ rotation that is a bit weak besides Masahiro Tanaka, they rely on Pineda to be an effective pitcher for them.

Even though he had a bad season last year, he totaled over 200 strikeouts in just 175 innings pitched. Besides the poor ERA, Pineda didn’t do the Yankees’ bullpen any favors last season. He was only able to pitch seven innings or more twice last season. That is simply putting too much pressure on the Yankees’ bullpen and is something that will have to be fixed this season.

With all of his talent, Pineda might end up finally putting it together and could have a great 2017 season. However, recent history indicates that he will not be much of a help for the Yankees this season.
