The New York Giants have reportedly released wide receiver Victor Cruz as they begin their offseason moves.

According to Kim Jones, the New York Giants have released wide receiver, Victor Cruz.

After years of salsa dancing and becoming a fan favorite, Victor Cruz will be playing elsewhere next season. The move to release Cruz doesn’t come as too much of a surprise. The Giants needed to find some money to save this offseason, and his production wasn’t very good in 2016.

The move will be saving the Giants about $7.5 million this offseason, and that is money that can certainly be spent in other areas. Despite Cruz being cut, he certainly had a nice tenure with the Giants.

After being undrafted, Cruz had his breakout season for the Giants in the 2011 season. That year, he was able to total 1,536 receiving yards and nine receiving touchdowns. Cruz quickly became loved in New York, and also emerged as one of the best slot receivers in the league.

The following season, Cruz played well once again. In 2012, he totaled 1,092 receiving yards and 10 receiving touchdowns. Unfortunately, Cruz’s production began to drop after that season. In 2013, Cruz was unable to reach 1,000 receiving yards, and he also caught just four touchdown passes.

In 2014, Cruz really saw his career be derailed. Against the Philadelphia Eagles, Cruz went down with a major knee injury that cost him the rest of the season. Despite attempting to come back in 2015, Cruz was never able to step on the field for the Giants.

Last season, Cruz finally did get back on the field. After missing a year and a half of action, Cruz did pretty well considering. He was able to play in 15 games for the Giants, and he totaled 586 receiving yards.

Despite having a successful comeback, it was clear that Cruz was not the receiver he once was. For the Giants, cutting him makes all the sense in the world. Cruz will always be loved by Giants fans, but he will have to find a new team to revitalize his career.
