New York Yankees: Top Five Reasons 2017 Will Be Great In The Bronx
Not the AL East Favorite
At first glance, this would seem like a negative, but in reality, this is a big positive for a young team. Don’t get me wrong there is always pressure on an up-and-coming team to perform, but when another team is projected to win the division, it takes some of the weight off of the team’s shoulders.
After the Red Sox traded Yoan Moncada for Chris Sale, they became the odds-on favorite to win the AL East. The Yankees are going to have Greg Bird, Tyler Austin, Aaron Judge, Luis Severino, and Gary Sanchez at a minimum on their Major League roster. Those five have only combined for 192 games, which shows how little experience the core of this team is going to have.
Time and time again fans of sports teams see young talented teams crumble under pressure. If you give a young team a chance to prove people wrong, that’s a recipe for some great late season baseball. The Yankees are going to play the majority of this season just on the outside of a division spot, and then late in the year, the youth is going to drive the team into the playoffs.
The best thing for this team is that they don’t a have a target on their back, instead, they will have to prove people wrong.
