Healthy Rotation

One of the main reasons why the Mets were unable to accomplish their goals in 2016 was because of injuries to their starting rotation. Coming into the season, the Mets were thought to have one of the best rotations in baseball. After helping them reach the World Series, there was plenty of hype surrounding the Mets’ rotation.

Instead of leading the team, most of the Mets’ starting pitchers ended up on the disabled list. Matt Harvey, Jacob deGrom, and Steven Matz all finished the season on the disabled list. In addition to those three going down with injuries, Zack Wheeler also suffered a setback in his rehab from Tommy John surgery. Many thought that the return of Wheeler would have helped the rotation. However, he was never able to throw a pitch for the Mets in 2016.

Despite all of the injuries, the Mets’ rotation was able to hang in there. Led by Noah Syndergaard, the Mets were still able to reach the playoffs even with a banged up rotation. If all of the starters can stay healthy, the Mets will be poised to make some noise in 2017. Everyone has been dying to see all of the Mets’ starters healthy at the same time. 2017 might finally be that year in New York.
