Cespedes is back

The biggest priority in the offseason for the New York Mets was to re-sign outfielder Yoenis Cespedes. The trade that acquired Cespedes from the Detroit Tigers really turned the Mets around. After having a poor offense for many years, acquiring Cespedes gave the Mets a true middle of the order hitter.

In his first half of a season, Cespedes played fantastic for the Mets. In 2015, he totaled 17 home runs and 44 RBIs in just 57 games. The addition to Cespedes in the middle of the lineup seemed to make everyone around him better. After the trade, the Mets went from one of the worst offenses in the league to one of the best. That without a doubt was because of Cespedes.

Despite being a free agent after the 2015 season, Cespedes stayed with the Mets in 2016. In his first full season with the team, he totaled 31 home runs and 86 RBIs. After the solid season, Cespedes used the opt-out clause in his contract to get more money and more years. The Mets absolutely need to re-sign him, and they achieved their No.1 offseason goal.

Cespedes was a bit banged up for the Mets in 2016. However, he should be healthy and ready for the 2017 season.
