Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie

Rodgers-Cromartie is the trickiest player on this list. He is a veteran that showed he could still play at a high level. His impact showed during the Wild Card loss to the Packers, as he was injured on the second play of the game and the Giants struggled to replace him.

Given his production, his salary is not egregious in any way. But, the way the Giants deploy him, he could be someone they consider moving on from. He is the third corner on the Giants, as Janoris Jenkins is ahead of him and 2016 first round pick Eli Apple looks poised to take a bigger role.

There are some questions about his fit in Steve Spagnuolo’s scheme as well, as he doesn’t necessarily fit the profile of a press corner. He played only 66 percent of their defensive snaps as well; partly because of fit but also because he seems to always be battling nagging injuries.

Rodgers-Cromartie is probably viewed as a luxury for the Giants. Is it one they can afford? He has a $7 million salary, $9 million cap hit and the Giants can save $5 million if he is cut. Is freeing up that amount of money worthwhile? It is something the Giants will have to consider in the coming weeks.

New York could also look to the trade market if they really want to move Rodgers-Cromartie. He should probably be bought back, but decisions will have to be made as the Giants look to upgrade other positions on their roster. Rodgers-Cromartie could become a casualty of that if the Giants believe he is a luxury they can no longer fit into their salary cap.
