New York Giants: 5 Potential Players To Be Salary Cap Cuts
Rashad Jennings
The backfield is one area that could be totally revamped this offseason. The Giants running game was lackluster in 2016 partly because of the offensive line woes. But, the Giants just didn’t have much talent in their backfield.
With Paul Perkins looking ready to assume a bigger role in the offense, the Giants could move on from Rashad Jennings. Jennings could be a solid complementary back, but the Giants will seriously consider moving on from him.
Jennings signed a four-year deal with the Giants prior to 2014. This was his first chance to be the bell cow lead back in his career, mostly because of his inability to stay healthy. He has had the same problem with the Giants, as he played in all 16 games in 2015 but missed multiple games in 2014 and 2016.
He could have a role with the Giants, but they could go in a different direction. Jennings does not bring explosiveness to the offense and struggles to make defenders miss; something that is a necessity when playing behind as poor an offensive line as the Giants have.
Jennings wouldn’t be horrible as an early down banger for the Giants. He is also relatively cheap and contributes on special teams as well. Those all work in Jennings favor, but if the Giants feel they can upgrade on the position they will not hesitate to do so.
