J.T. Thomas

Of all of the players on this list, Thomas is probably the closest thing to a lock to be released. He was a cut candidate last year but remained with the team after he restructured his contract. He then suffered a season-ending injury in Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys and his fate is pretty much sealed.

Thomas was signed as a free agent in 2015 to a three-year deal. The Giants had hoped he would help bolster their linebacking corps, but he never lived up to their hopes. The fact they considered releasing him only one year into his three-year deal is all you need to know about how quickly he fell out of favor with the Giants.

Thomas is still only 28-years old, so the Giants could consider restructuring him again. They do need help at linebacker, and if they think Thomas could help they could ask him to take a considerable pay cut. The more likely outcome is the Giants just releasing Thomas and washing their hands of him.

Thomas is set to count $4 million against the Giants cap in 2017, but they can save $3 million by releasing him. You can almost guarantee that they will be saving that $3 million.
