New York Knicks: 5 Likeliest Players To Not Be With Team After Trade Deadline
Derrick Rose
If the Knicks do indeed trade Anthony, they are waiving the white flag on this season. The Knicks intentions would be clear, as a rebuild would be on the way. If that is the case, there isn’t a player more likely to be on the move than Rose.
Rose was acquired in a trade by Jackson with the Chicago Bulls this past offseason. It was a move made to help get the Knicks into the postseason; if they concede that the postseason isn’t feasible, you can bet on them looking to flip Rose for anything.
The organization has soured on Rose as the season has gone on. He hasn’t played horribly, but the incident in early January when he went AWOL should end any chance he had of landing a long-term deal with the Knicks. If the Knicks have no intention of keeping him, why not try to trade him for something that could help in the future?
Rose is unlikely to land the Knicks much, but getting anything for him would probably be a win at this stage. Acquiring him has proven to be a poor move, and if the Knicks want to rebuild he will probably not be around.
If Anthony gets traded, Rose will probably not be far behind. Courtney Lee would fall into this category as well, but he is the type of veteran a young team would like to have around. Unless Lee asks for a trade, it seems unlikely that the Knicks would willingly move him.
Rose, though, is someone the team would probably like to move. If Anthony is held onto a deal involving Rose is unlikely, but if the rebuild starts in the coming weeks the Knicks will work the phones and try to unload him.
