New York Giants: 5 Things They Must Do To Win Super Bowl 52
By Nick Ziegler
1.) Improve at Left Tackle
The biggest weakness for the Giants in 2016 was at left tackle. Ereck Flowers was one of the worst tackles in the NFL, and he did a poor job throughout the season protecting the blind side of Eli Manning. The inability for Flowers to properly give Manning the time that he needed, forced a lot of early throws and made the Giants’ offense have to adjust.
Instead of being able to use weapons like Odell Beckham Jr. down the field, the Giants had to run more slants and other quick option routes on offense. While Manning is a good quarterback, he isn’t known for his mobility. Having a poor left tackle is setting Manning up for failure, and it is something the Giants need to address.
Just because Flowers shouldn’t be playing left tackle doesn’t mean that the Giants have to give up on the former Top-10 pick. Moving Flowers to the right side could help him grow as a player, and also improve that side of the line. While Flowers wasn’t very good on the left side, the right side of the line was also an issue for the Giants. Getting a good left tackle isn’t an easy thing to accomplish, but it should be priority No.1 for the Giants in the offseason.
