2.) Be Better at Running the Football

One of the issues with the Giants’ offense in 2016 was their inability to run the football. Partially due to their offensive line not being that great, the Giants’ rushing attack struggled. Rashad Jennings was the featured back for most of the season, but he really didn’t play all that well. In 2016, Jennings totaled 593 rushing yards, which was the team-high. However, he averaged just 3.3 yards per carry. The poor yards per carry average led to Paul Perkins getting more carries in the second half of the season.

Perkins was a player that many fans got excited about when the Giants drafted him in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. At UCLA, Perkins played very well, and many expected to see him contribute in 2016. It didn’t happen right away, but Perkins did become more involved in the offense toward the end of the season.

In 2016, Perkins totaled 456 rushing yards and 4.8 yards per carry. In 2017, we might see a lot more of Perkins at running back for the Giants. If the Giants don’t believe that Perkins can be the featured back in 2017, they will have to add another running back. Improving on the ground will be an important part of balancing the Giants’ offense in 2017.
