3.) Maintain Success on Defense

One of the main reasons why the Giants were as good as they were in 2016 was because of their defense. In the offseason, the Giants invested a lot of money in their defense, and it turned out to be money well spent. The acquisitions of Damon Harrison, Janoris Jenkins, and Olivier Vernon all paid off for the Giants.

On the defensive line, Harrison was one of the best run defenders in the NFL. After being awful at stopping the run in 2015, Harrison instantly made them one of the best in the league at stopping the run. In addition to Harrison on the defensive line, Vernon also played really well in the second half of the season, Vernon was able to generate a lot of pressure on opposing quarterbacks, and he became a great partner with Jason Pierre-Paul.

Even though Pierre-Paul was injured last season, re-signing him will be one of the top priorities for the Giants. When JPP and Vernon were in their groove together last season, the Giants’ pass-rush was one of the best in the league.

Behind the strong defensive line was one of the best secondaries in the NFL. While Jenkins was the big signing in the offseason, it was Landon Collins who would emerge as a star in 2016. Improvements could be made at linebacker. However, this is an excellent defense as it currently stands.
