The New York Jets recently hired New Orleans Saints wide receivers coach John Morton. What did Drew Brees have to say about his former coach?
After a dreadful year on offense, it was time for a change for the New York Jets. With Chan Gailey out, the Jets hired New Orleans Saints wide receivers coach John Morton for the position.
With the success of the wide receivers and the offense in New Orleans for the last few years, this appears to be a good move for the Jets. Even though Morton has never been an offensive play caller, he appears to be qualified for the promotion.
His former quarterback Drew Brees gave him a ringing endorsement in a recent interview. Here’s what Brees had to say.
"“I’m excited for him and the opportunity that he has,” Brees said Thursday at Super Bowl LI in Houston via Rich Cimini of ESPN.com. “He’s been around some great play-callers throughout his career, guys like Norv Turner in Oakland, Jon Gruden of course [and] Sean Payton, just to name a few.“My experiences with Johnny have been great, especially over the last two years when he came back to New Orleans. I thought he brought a lot of great ideas and kind of a presence with the coaching staff and contributed a lot. I wish him well. I hope he does a great job.”"
There’s no denying that the Saints’ offense has been great. They are frequently leading the NFL in total yards and also in points. The hope for the Jets is that Morton can help bring that to New York.

Most importantly for Morton will be to grow two of the Jets’ young quarterbacks. With the situation under center still a big question mark, the Jets have to hope that Bryce Petty or Christian Hackenberg develop a lot this offseason.
