Analysis:
Nicks provided terrific value as a first-rounder, providing the Giants with a true No. 1 wide receiver to replace the leaving Amani Toomer and released Plaxico Burress. As for the other members of the ’09 Giants’ draft class, it was not pretty. Beatty was the only other player who somewhat reached his potential with the Giants, while the others fell off the radar. Brown was injured during his rookie season and was waived in 2010 before re-joining the team in 2011.
In free agency, Boley and Canty were notable additions to the defense, but Reese did not do much else. The free agent market was not amazing in 2009, so the Giants had high hopes for their draft class with little money to spend attracting players.
This was clearly not one of Reese’s best offseasons, and fans would’ve liked to have seen more improvement following a disappointing exit from the playoffs the year before. In hindsight, either McCoy or Lang were much better draft selections than Sintim turned out to be. Not a good draft class (except for Nicks) for the Giants.
