New York Giants: Nolan Rich’s Seven Round Mock Draft (1.0)
By Nolan Rich
Round 6: Jalen Reeves-Maybin; Outside Linebacker, Tennessee
The Giants have needed help in the linebacking core for a long time as it is the weakest unit of the defense. While Reeves-Maybin did suffer a shoulder injury that ended his season early, the Giants could take advantage of a day two prospect on the third day of the draft.
Reeves-Maybin has a great first step and would fit well in the weak side outside linebacker role. While he is undersized at 230 pounds, he has terrific coverage skills that enable him to cover tight ends and receivers in the middle of the field. In fact, the Volunteers would even deploy him as a nickel corner in some of their coverage schemes.
Some of the knocks are his tackling ability and only average ball skills. However, his ability to cover and be a versatile pass defender who can stay on the field in different packages would make Reeves-Maybin a nice piece on the Giants’ defense.
