New York Giants: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly for Victor Cruz
The Bad
Cruz has had a career filled with injuries. After a Pro Bowl appearance in 2012 Cruz’s numbers have not been what they used to be, and that’s mostly because of injuries.
In 2013 Cruz suffered a heel bruise that nagged him the entire season. The injury did enough to prevent Cruz from eclipsing the 1,000 yard receiving for the first time in his career.
The biggest injury Cruz faced came in 2014 against the Philadelphia Eagles. Cruz suffered a torn patella tendon ending his season after just six games. He would try extensive rehab to get back for the 2015 season, but after setting a benchmark for a Week 5 return, it would get pushed back to week 10, and ultimately keep him out the whole year.
Cruz came back this year, but didn’t produce anywhere near what he did in his prime. Before his season ending injury in 2014, Cruz had 336 yards receiving and a touchdown. In a full 16-game season, Cruz only merited 586 yards receiving and one touchdown. It was an understandable decline for Cruz after such a nasty injury, but regardless, the injuries could be a key component for the Giants leaving Cruz off of the roster next season.
