New York Knicks Midseason Grades By Position: Shooting Guard
The Knicks acquired Justin Holiday along with Derrick Rose in their trade with the Chicago Bulls this past offseason. People overlooked the acquisition of Holiday, look at him as just a throw in to help match salaries. He has proven to be much more than that, as he has been a key contributor for the Knicks through the first half of the season.
Holiday is putting together a career season, as the Knicks have given him his first shot at consistent minutes in his NBA career. He is one of only two players, along with Brandon Jennings, to play in every game this season. The Knicks should be grateful for that, as they have played some of their best basketball with Holiday on the court.
Holiday was known as a defensive-minded player, and that has carried over to New York. He has also augmented his game to become an above average three-point shooter to help space the floor, knocking down 36.6 percent of his shots from long range.
With Holiday on the court, the Knicks have a net rating of only -0.8; when he is off the court the Knicks have a net rating of -4.6. The 3.8 rating difference is one of the biggest on the roster, as the Knicks play good basketball when Holiday is on the court.
Holiday ranks 40th out of 98 shooting guards in overall RPM according to ESPN, ranking 38th in defense and 44th offensively. He has proven to be a diamond in the rough for the Knicks, as he always has his nose around the ball making winning plays.
