New York Islanders: Top 5 Draft Picks in Last 10 Years
By Nick Ziegler
3.) Anders Lee
One of the great steals for the Islanders in the last 10 years was the selection of Anders Lee in the sixth round of the 2009 NHL Draft. In addition to selecting John Tavares first overall that year, the Islanders were also able to strike gold later on the in the draft. Casey Cizikas was taken in the fourth round, and then Lee in the sixth.
Getting a player like Lee in the sixth round was huge for the Islanders. Even though Lee might not be a superstar, he has been a solid player for the Islanders. As a big body, Lee has been best-served playing in front of the net. Using his size and strength, Lee has emerged as a pretty good goal-scorer for the Islanders. His goals might not be the prettiest, but he is excellent at working in front of the net to get rebounds.
In his first full season with the Islanders, Lee was able to total 25 goals in 76 games. Lee did take a bit of a step back in the 15-16 season, but he was still able to total 15 goals for the Islanders. In just 42 games this season, Lee has already totaled 15 goals and is on pace for scoring just below 30 goals. For a sixth round pick, a 30-goal player would be an outstanding find.
