4.) Travis Hamonic

In the second round of the 2008 NHL Draft, the Islanders selected defenseman Travis Hamonic. Since being drafted, Hamonic has developed into a Top-4 defenseman in the NHL, and has certainly played well for the Islanders.

Hamonic burst onto the scene with a big rookie season. In his rookie year, Hamonic played in 62 games, totaling five goals and 21 assists. It was quite apparent early on that Hamonic was going to be a good defenseman in the NHL, and also a good scorer for a defenseman.

Throughout his career, Hamonic has averaged at least 20 minutes of ice time per game. Unlike some defensemen, Hamonic is not shy about mixing it up in the offensive end. In the 2014-15 season, Hamonic was able to total a career-high in points with 33, and in assists with 28.

Last season, Hamonic had a tough year. There was a trade request put in by Hamonic to be sent closer to home because of a family issue. However, no trade happened, and Hamonic ended up taking the request off the table.

At just 26-years-old, Hamonic is still a very young player for the Islanders. As he enters the prime of his career, he might become an even better player in the NHL.
