New York Giants Top Ten Defensive Linemen of All-Time
Number Seven: Roosevelt Grier
Good old Rosey. Such a loveable character, but before his acting career, Grier was one of the NFL’s most feared pass rushers. He was a member of the Penn State Nittany Lions before being drafted 31st overall in 1955 by the Giants.
All Grier would do after being drafted was lead the Giants to in NFL Championship in just his second year. He also helped lead the team to Eastern Conference Championships in 1958, 1959, 1961, and 1962.
Grier has always been known as an NFL great but is best known for his years with the Rams. In his career, he had 44.5 sacks and two safeties in 141 games.
Grier was a two-time Pro Bowler with the Giants and was named an All-Pro defensive tackle in 1956, and 1958-62. His career really took off after the Giants traded him to the Rams in 1963. Grier is farther back on this list because he is better-known as a member of the Rams’ “Fearsome Foursome”, and because he was pretty good in “Daniel Boone”.
