New York Giants Come In Middle Of The Pack In Playoff Power Rankings
7. New York Giants
This season was backward for the Giants. Coming into the year many thought they would have an explosive offense that would cover up the faults of their defense. It was the exact opposite, as the Giants possess a top defensive unit and the offense has been in the gutter most of the season.
Even so, it is tough to bet against the Giants in the postseason. While Eli Manning has had his struggles this season, he has been lights out come playoff time. He is 7-0 in his career as an underdog and has performed well throughout the postseason in his career. While the offense has been disappointing, you cannot count out a veteran such as Manning in a winner take all game.
The Giants rushing offense also showed life the last few games of the season. Paul Perkins set a career-high in five consecutive games and continues to earn a larger role in the offense. The Giants also have arguably the most explosive weapon in the NFL in Odell Beckham Jr. at their disposal.
What the Giants have hung their hat on this season, though, as been their defense. This is one of the best defensive units in the NFL. They surrendered the second fewest points and 10th fewest yards through the regular season for a dominant season.
Couple the signings of Olivier Vernon, Damon Harrison, Janoris Jenkins, and Keenan Robinson, the drafting of Eli Apple, improvement of Landon Collins, and holdover Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and this is a dangerous unit for anyone to face off against.
