Round Three: Lorenzo Mauldin, Outside Linebacker, Louisville

With the selection of Mauldin in the third round, the Jets must have felt they could have a potential starter at outside linebacker. After two seasons, Mauldin has been a solid role player in New York’s defense but hasn’t been able to hold down a starting position.

With the selections of Darron Lee and Jordan Jenkins in the 2016 NFL Draft, there is now a log jam at linebacker for the Jets, who are still in need of a speed edge rusher for 2017.

Through two seasons Mauldin has 14 tackles and 6.5 sacks; he has also been a contributor on special teams. But, he will need to take some major steps forward to be more than just a role player in 2017 on the defense. The Jets are hoping one of these young linebackers can take the next step forward; could it be Mauldin?
