Brooklyn Nets fans left disappointed Monday night as the visiting Utah Jazz picked up the victory.

101. 118. Final. 89. 147

It was another disappointing night at the Barclays Center for the Brooklyn Nets. The Nets were defeated by the visiting Utah Jazz, who used a strong fourth quarter to pull away and leave Brooklyn with a win.

The Nets and Jazz were tied at 70 heading into the fourth quarter, but the Jazz were able to put them away in the final 12 minutes. The Jazz outscored them 31-19 in the final stanza, with former Nets’ shooting guard Joe Johnson delivering the crushing three-point blow with 1:40 left in the game.

The Nets battled all night, but the Jazz bruising style eventually wore them down. The offense was a struggle throughout the evening for Brooklyn. They shot only 42.3 percent from the field and 22.2 percent from deep. They also turned the ball over 20 times, seeing first hand how stifling the Jazz defense can be.

The starting five also struggled to keep the Nets in the game. All five starters finished the game with a negative plus/minus ratio, with Bojan Bogdanovic‘s -1 the best of the bunch. The bench had a stronger game but were unable to overcome the hole that the starters were in seemingly all night.

There was not one area the Nets lost this game, as they played the Jazz relatively even in all facets of the game. The Jazz shot only 41.9 percent from the field and 29.2 percent from deep. The Nets did enough to stay in the game, but not enough to steal a victory against the surging Jazz.

Three Stars

PF Trevor Booker, Nets — Facing off against one of his former teams, Booker put together a very strong game. He recorded his 11th double-double of the season, scoring 17 points with 17 rebounds in 34 minutes. He also had two assists and one block on the evening as he continues to be a consistent producer for the Nets this season.

SF Gordon Hayward, Jazz — Hayward has taken his game to another level yet again this season and showed the Nets tonight. He scored a game-high 30 points on 9-of-18 from the field, 3-of-4 from deep and 9-of-9 from the foul line. He also grabbed four rebounds, handed out three assists, had two steals, and one block.

C Rudy Gobert, Jazz — Gobert is a legitimate defensive player of the year candidate. With his size and length he makes this extremely difficult on opposing offenses. He made things difficult for Brook Lopez tonight, who shot 6-of-16 from the field. Gobert had a very good game, scoring 15 points with 16 rebounds. He also added two assists, one steal, and three blocks.
