As the New York Jets 2016 season draws to a close, it’s clear that major changes are on the horizon for the team in the upcoming offseason.

The good news is that the team can shed cap space with minor cap penalties to allow the team to possibly sign free agents to address key spots such as the offensive line and the secondary. While there is a chance these veterans could be back next season, these are the most likely Jets players to be cut in the offseason.

Darrelle Revis
2017 Cap Hit: $15,333,333
Cap Penalty: $2,000,000

Father time caught up with Darrelle Revis in 2016. Once a top flight corner in the NFL, earning the nickname Revis Island, the 31-year old has regressed to the point where he may not even be a starting caliber cornerback.

While the team has entertained the prospect the move to safety, Revis is set to make over $15 Million in 2017, which is a high price for an experiment. If the Jets cut Revis before June 1st, the team will only have to pay a $2 Million roster bonus and save over $13 Million dollars.

Revis could rebound, in 2017, but makes sense for the Jets to move on from a regressing corner who is owed top dollar. While Revis could restructure his deal to return to New York next season, he has proven time and again he wants top dollar and it’s doubtful his likely to give the Jets a hometown discount.
