New York Mets Rumors: The Toronto Blue Jays reportedly remain interested in acquiring either Jay Bruce or Curtis Granderson.

New York Mets rumors continue to swirl in regards to their outfield logjam. The Mets still only have Juan Lagares as a true center fielder, but before they can address that they need to fix the logjam that they have.

With Yoenis Cespedes re-signing on a four-year deal, the Mets need to make a move with the remaining outfielders. In addition to Lagares, Michael Conforto looks to be someone the Mets want to hold onto. But, they have fielded offers for Jay Bruce and Curtis Granderson.

Bruce and Granderson have had their names in the rumor mill all offseason. Both have had varying levels of interest on the market, with Bruce reportedly garnering very little in the way of a return package.

There were also reports that Granderson was taken off the market by the Mets; they would prefer to move Bruce instead of Granderson, with one of the reasons being Granderson’s versatility to play centerfield.

That has not stopped teams from calling the Mets, though. According to Jon Morosi of MLB Network and Fox Sports, the Blue Jays remain in talks for both Granderson and Bruce. He also adds that the Mets are looking to add a centerfielder, which makes some sense as Lagares is the only one they have.

It should come as no surprise the Blue Jays are still looking for some outfield help. They look unlikely to retain Jose Bautista or Michael Saunders, leaving a huge hole in the outfield. They could also use an infusion of power, as they are more than likely going to lose Edwin Encarnacion as well as Bautista and Saunders.

More from New York Mets

Both Bruce and Granderson would fit the bill as power-hitting, left-handed batters for the Blue Jays. They have remained the most active it sounds in trying to acquire Bruce or Granderson, but there is no word on traction being made on a deal.

Toronto has been interested in Bruce for a while, going back to last season. They thought they had a deal done to acquire him in a three-team trade with the Los Angeles Angels and Cincinnati Reds, but a prospect failed his physical and the deal fell through.

Granderson being the player they prefer to acquire is understandable. For all the same reasons the Mets like him, the Blue Jays would like to acquire him. He is a consummate veteran, brings power and patience at the plate, and versatility in the outfield to give a manager some flexibility.

What kind of package the Mets will get back, or are looking for, is unknown. In addition to a center fielder, the Mets are looking to add some arms to their bullpen. Could Bruce or Granderson fulfill that wish? We will have to wait and see what happens in the coming weeks.
