New York Giants Team Grades vs Detroit Lions
Rushing Offense Grade: B+
The Giants rushing offense is showing signs of life. With Justin Pugh back in the lineup, they were able to churn out some yards more consistently.
Paul Perkins led the way this time. He carried the ball 11 times for 56 yards. It was the third consecutive week that he set a career-high for rushing yards as the Giants are making a more concerted effort in getting him involved. He has proven he can make a defender miss, something Rashad Jennings has struggled to do.
Jennings is able to get the job done, but he needs help in doing so. He is not able to make defenders miss much and needs a hole to be created to accomplish much of anything. Against the Lions, he ran for 38 yards on 18 carries.
The Giants also gave Shane Vereen two carries, which he turned into 11 yards. Vereen struggled with ball security, as he fumbled on one of his receptions and failed to bring in a couple other targets as well. Odell Beckham Jr. was given a carry on a reverse as well and gained nine yards.
Overall, the Giants gained 114 yards on 32 carries, which equals 3.6 yards per carry. That is not a good number by any means, but it was nice to see them stick to the ground game and try grinding out yards.
